PARTNERS working to tackle unemployment in areas of the Rhondda have set themselves – and residents – a challenge to overcome the issues together as part of a pilot scheme. Representatives from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to Jobcentre Plus, Bro Dysg, Teaching, Local Health boards and voluntary groups attended an event at Porth Plaza to discuss problems, identify solutions and carve a way forward, especially in Porth, Cymmer, Tylorstown and Ynyshir. more...

New start for Jeanette as she looks to future

A TRULY inspirational woman has proved that it’s never too late to turn your life around. 

Jeanette Jones, aged 55, gave a moving speech at a recent conference, describing how she managed to escape her 30-year violent marriage by moving to Rhondda Cynon Taff. Jeanette, who now lives in Trallwn, Pontypridd, has managed to find work with the Dash Training agency in Porth, after arriving in RCT with little more than the clothes on her back. more...

Young people from Greece and Albania were assured of a ‘welcome in the hillsides’ when they spent a week in Rhondda Cynon Taf as part of the innovative ‘Interskills’ project.

Alongside young people from Rhondda Cynon Taf, they worked to produce a DVD on the importance of employability skills within a diverse range of industry areas, including the creative industries, eco-tourism and furniture making. more...

A Festival of Learning comes to RCT for Adult Learners' Week 2007

Between 19th and 26th May, a wide selection of free taster sessions and workshops will take place across the County Borough, giving local people of all ages and abilities the chance to try out new activities and pick up new skills.

Planned workshops include cookery, history, keep fit, art, craft, Welsh and holistic therapy. Learners will also be able to take advantage of information sessions on assertiveness, time management, personal development and confidence building.

Although they will not be arriving in the County Borough until the 26th March, the young people from Greece and Albania who are taking part in the innovative ‘Interskills’ project have already made contact with their Rhondda Cynon Taf counterparts.
